As any girl knows, bloating is a sure-fire way to ruin a photo opp or a fun night out with friends which is why I’m pumped today to share my favorite tips, given to me by the fabulous Kelly LeVeque.  What are some of your bloating tips?
THE LOW DOWN: The best way to prevent bloating is to eat a diet rich in leafy greens, water and fiber packed vegetables and fat rich proteins, like salmon. Unfortunately, we aren’t always perfect so here is a quick list to help prevent a reduce bloating
REDUCE BLOATING: Fix it fast.
Water with Lemon; Start the day with a cup of warm lemon water, lemons are a natural diuretic and a gentle laxative. Adding a few slices to a cup of warm water will reduce the amount of salt retained in the body. This technique is also known to help induce a bowel movement which healthy way to get the toxins out.
Cucumber: Cucumbers reduce puffiness under eyes and internally. Fill a large pitcher with room temperature water and float 1 cup of freshly sliced cucumber. The cucumber will release quercetin, a flavonoid antioxidant that helps reduce swelling. Drink it slowly and between meals.
Ginger: This natural anti-inflammatory and digestive aid soothes the digestive system and relaxes the muscles of the colon breaking up gas and relieving bloating. In a cup, add a slice of peeled fresh ginger and add boiling hot water, sip slowly.
Peppermint Tea: The oils in peppermint stimulate the gallbladder to release bile that your body uses to digest fats and relieve spasms in the gastrointestinal tract. This release allows gas to pass and bloating to subside. This herbal tea also helps to rehydrate naturally.
Apple Cider Vinegar: Apple cider vinegar is a liver and lymphatic tonic that can help detox your body. It helps balance your body’s pH and stimulates cardiovascular stimulation, bowel motility and lymphatic drainage. Add it to your dressing or put a tbsp. in a large glass of water and drink it down.
Yoga: Deep breathing will help enhance the digestive system through the process of resupplying the stomach, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, as well as, the intestines having a fresh supply of blood that could eliminate or lessen gas or bloating. Yoga postures that demand you to twist your abdomen coming from a seated pose provide a method to constrict the stomach organs, wringing out all the trapped or too much gas.
Cryotherapy: Cryotherapy is localized or whole-body exposure to subzero temperatures to decrease inflammation, increase cellular survival, decrease pain and spasms, and promote overall health. It might be the longest 2 min of your life but it’s worth the chill. It increases circulation and decreases inflammation faster than any other treatment. Cryohealthcare in Los Angeles actually offers a cryofacial if you need to be photo shoot ready without the puff.
PREVENT BLOATING: Avoid these bloating culprits.
Chemical Sugar & Orgnaic Sugar: From splenda and xylitol to honey and coconut sugar, these sweet granules found in gum and sweet foods can feed yeast and candida in the gut. The overgrowth of bad bacteria creates and imbalance in the body known as Dysbiois that contributes to bloating, gas and abdominal extension. If you crave sugar and have these symptoms consider taking a probiotic to rebalance your body.
Sweet Alcoholic Beverages: The warm sun ushers in sweet summer libations that leave us puffy and swollen. To prevent these unsightly side effects make hydration and circulation a priority. Alcohol can be the culprit of poor sleep, cellular mineral imbalance and impaired food judgment. Instead prepare your body by properly hydrating 24 hours before your event, limit caffeine and salt and load up on leafy greens and water rich vegetables.
Dairy and Gluten: It’s not hype; the most common side effect to even a slight intolerance of these foods is bloating and GI related.
